WhatsApp Suffers Widespread Outage in India; Users Across India Affected

Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp experienced a major outage on Saturday, affecting users across India. Many users were unable to send messages or upload status updates.
According to outage tracking website Down Detector, around 81% of users reported issues with sending messages, while 16% faced problems with the overall app functionality.
“Is it just me or your WhatsApp is down as well? I am trying to upload status and it’s taking forever to do so,” said a user on X.

Hey @WhatsApp , is the app down? I’m having trouble sending messages – they’re just not going through. Anyone else facing this? #WhatsAppDown

There was no immediate statement from WhatsApp on the outage.
Some users reported similar outage on Facebook and Instagram as well, both owned by Meta.
“Hey @WhatsApp, is the app down? I’m having trouble sending messages – they’re just not going through. Anyone else facing this?” posted one user.
In late February, WhatsApp faced a major global outage, leaving users unable to send messages, make calls, or access the platform through WhatsApp Web. The outage affected millions, with Down Detector receiving over 9,000 user complaints on the same day.
Earlier that day, digital payment services via the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) were also disrupted nationwide. The outage impacted several online payment platforms, affecting daily transactions such as shopping, bill payments, and business dealings.

NPCI is currently facing intermittent technical issues, leading to partial UPI transaction declines. We are working to resolve the issue, and will keep you updated.

We regret the inconvenience caused.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which manages UPI, confirmed on social media platform X that the disruption was caused by technical issues.
“NPCI is currently facing intermittent technical issues, leading to partial UPI transaction declines,” the NPCI, shared in a post on social media platform X.
“We are working to resolve the issue and will keep you updated. We regret the inconvenience caused,” it added.
