India’s top digital payment system, UPI, suffered another major outage on Saturday—its second this month—disrupting transactions for thousands nationwide.
Platforms like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm were affected, with users reporting failed payments and fund transfer issues. According to Downdetector, the glitch began around 11:26 am and peaked at 11:41 am with over 222 reports.
“UPI is down again today, all payments are getting failed. At least there should be prior intimation sent in case of planned outage,” a user wrote on X.
This marks the sixth major UPI outage in the past year, coming just days after two consecutive disruptions in late March and early April.
Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) was flooded with complaints with several users expressing concern over repeated UPI outages.
An X user said, Yesterday, someone was praising UPI payment on LinkedIn and how it has made life easier. Today, it is down.” Another X user said, “Facing trouble with GPay, PhonePe or Paytm You’re NOT alone – UPI is down across India.”
As per Down Detector, around 1,265 users have complained about the UPI outage.
Despite the widespread disruption on Saturday, the NPCI has not yet released an official statement explaining the cause of the latest UPI outage.
Earlier this week, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approved an increase in transaction limits for person-to-merchant (P2M) payments on UPI to further promote digital transactions nationwide.
