CBSE Releases New Syllabus For 10th, 12th: Result Calculation, Grading System And Other Key Updates

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the Class 10 and Class 12 syllabus for the academic year 2025-26. The newly published curriculum provides detailed guidelines on academic content, learning outcomes, and a roadmap for the CBSE Board Exams 2026. The CBSE has announced a major overhaul of the examination process.

Class 10 students will now have the opportunity to sit for two board exams each year-February and April-starting from the academic year 2025-26.

However, Class 12 exams will continue to be conducted once a year. The Class 12 board exams for 2026 will begin on February 17, and the board expects around 20 lakh students to appear for the exams.

CBSE Class 10 Syllabus 2025: New Result Calculation System

The CBSE Class 10 exams for the academic year 2025-26 will follow a 9-point grading system for converting marks into grades. The board exam will be conducted for 80 marks in each subject, with compulsory subjects including 20 marks for internal assessment.

To pass, students will need to score at least 33 per cent in each subject. Students will have the option to choose one out of three skill-based subjects-Computer Application (Code 165), Information Technology (Code 402), and Artificial Intelligence (Code 417). Additionally, students must select either English or Hindi as one of the languages for Class 9 or 10.

If a student fails in core subjects such as Science, Mathematics, or Social Science, or in a language paper, but passes a skill subject or an optional language subject, the failed subject will be replaced by the qualified skill or language subject for the calculation of results.

CBSE Class 12 Syllabus 2025: New Elective Subjects

The CBSE Class 12 board exam for 2026 will also be assessed using the 9-point grading scale. In addition, four new skill electives have been introduced, including Land Transportation Associate, Electronics and Hardware, Physical Activity Trainer, and Design Thinking and Innovation.

For subjects such as Informatics Practices (Code 065), Computer Science (Code 083), and Information Technology (Code 802), students can choose only one subject.

CBSE Class 12th Syllabus 2025-26

The Class 12 syllabus spans seven major learning areas: Languages, Humanities, Mathematics, Sciences, Skill Subjects, General Studies, and Health and Physical Education.
