After a 24-year-old woman from Sojitra allegedly impersonated the Deputy Superintendent of Police of Ahmedabad Crime Branch and “accepted felicitations while delivering motivational talks” at community events, the Anand Local Crime Branch has begun launched a probe into the matter.
An FIR has been lodged at Sojitra police station against the woman, identified as Nisha Salim Vohra. She has been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 204 (personating as a public servant), 319(2) (cheating by personation).
As per the FIR, in which Sojitra Police Sub-Inspector P K Mandora is a complainant, Vohra’s case came to light “through social media posts”, which turned out to be fake “on checking results of the last five years of GPSC exam”.
The FIR states that Vohra had claimed to have bagged the first rank in the state in the GPSC exam and secured the post of DySP with Ahmedabad Crime Branch at the age of 24. The FIR states, “We came across social media posts drawing attention to the story of a woman from Sojitra. The post claimed that she was among the youngest women to clear the GPSC exam with the first rank and was appointed DySP in Ahmedabad Crime Branch. Along with the news, there were also photographs of her at various felicitations organised by community groups…”
The FIR states that the police began an investigation to verify the credentials of Vohra and learnt that she had also “been delivering motivational talk about her dedication to clear GPSC exams without coaching”. The FIR states that on being summoned for questioning, Vohra told the police that she had “never clarified to the organisations that felicitated” her that she had been impersonating the DySP.
The FIR states, “When an investigation was carried out to ascertain if the woman had indeed bagged the top rank in the state GPSC exam in the last five years, it came to light that her name was not even on the list of GPSC candidates since 2020. On being questioned at Sojitra police station, along with her relatives, Vohra said she was unable to produce any documents to show her GPSC result as well as her appointment order as DySP in Ahmedabad Crime Branch. She admitted that she was preparing for competitive exams but she had never clarified to the organisations that she had not cleared the GPSC exam or that she was not appointed as DySP.”
As per the FIR, Vohra was felicitated by a Surat-based community organisation, where she was invited as the “chief guest” and delivered a talk on her “successful journey as a DySP at a young age”.
The police are also verifying if Vohra misled officials during an event in Sojitra to click and misuse photographs with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and MLA Vipul Patel, where she was seen presenting the Chief Minister with a painting.
As per the police complaint, Vohra completed her SSC and HSC at Jamia High School in Sojitra and graduated in Commerce from Sardar Patel University in Vallabh Vidyanagar.
