The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has invited an ARC tender to set up Sports Activity Centres under seven flyovers across the city. The flyovers where the sports activities will be initiated are Dinesh Chamber flyover, Rajendra Park flyover, Ghodasar flyover, Anjali flyover, Ladlapir (Shahibaug) railway overbridge, Guruji railway overbridge, and Gujarat College railway overbridge. Additionally, two more sports centres will be opened on SG Highway near Palladium Mall and Kargil Junction, pending approvals from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).
As per the scope of work outlined in the tender, the salient features of the proposed development include a landscaped garden with plantation and seating arrangements, a children’s play area (featuring a rocket-shaped multi-play station, crawling tunnel, marigold platform, and other items), box cricket, and other indoor games. The development will also include theme-based decorative sculptures, decorative EPDM flooring, a food stall, decorative painting and lighting, and area development works.
Union Home Minister Amitbhai Shah recently inaugurated a Sports Activity Centre under the flyover in the Science City area, which has been developed at a cost of Rs. 3.50 crore. This sports centre is developed in six spans out of a total of 11, while the remaining five spans are used for parking vehicles. The activities available at the centre include basketball, volleyball, cricket, football, a store room, change rooms for ladies and gents, pickleball, an admin room, indoor games such as air hockey, table tennis, chess, carom, and a pool table. The facility also includes seating arrangements, a kids’ area, a cafeteria, and ladies’ and gents’ toilet blocks.
