A parcel bomb explosion in the Sabarmati area of the city this morning left two people injured, including the person who delivered the bomb. The blast occurred around 10:45 AM at Shivam Row House on IOC Road, prompting an immediate police response.
It has been reported that one Gaurav Gadhvi went to Baldevbhai Sukhadiya’s house to deliver the parcel. However, as he handed it over, the parcel exploded, injuring both Gadhvi and Baldevbhai’s brother. The explosion occurred suddenly with a loud bang, causing people nearby to rush to the scene. Upon receiving the information, a police team arrived and began investigating the incident.
According to Baldevbhai, Gaurav Gadhvi brought the parcel to his house. Baldevbhai stated that he informed Gadhvi he had not ordered the parcel, to which Gadhvi responded that it was sent by someone named Sureshbhai. Shortly after, a fire broke out, followed by a massive explosion. “For a moment, I lost my vision, and my nephew was injured. The hands of the person who delivered the parcel were also severely injured. When I asked for his phone number, he refused to provide it,” Baldevbhai said.
“I suspect a person named Rupen is behind this. I work as a clerk in the High Court and have helped Rupen several times in the past. This time, I didn’t assist him, so he might have done this. Rupen has multiple criminal cases registered against him, including those related to alcohol. I have known Rupen for 12 years,” Baldevbhai added.
Sector-1 JCP Neeraj Badgujar confirmed that at 10:45 AM, Gaurav Gadhvi arrived at Baldevbhai’s house at Shivam Row House with a parcel, which exploded. Baldevbhai’s brother was injured in the blast and was immediately taken to the hospital. Upon receiving information, the police arrived at the scene and arrested Gadhvi, who was delivering the parcel. The blast was found to be part of a family dispute, and preliminary investigations revealed that alcohol containers had been used in the explosion. The police have filed an attempted murder case and are continuing their investigation. The names of those involved in orchestrating the blast have been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.
Kamal Sukhaida, a family member of the injured, told the media, “I was at work when my mother called and said that someone came with a parcel and handed it over to my father, even though we hadn’t ordered anything online. Meanwhile, two people were outside the society who allegedly pressed some button, and that’s when the blast occurred, injuring them. Two people absconded, while the delivery man was nabbed by the police, and the investigation is ongoing.”
FSL and police teams are on-site conducting additional inquiries.
