The Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA), as part of its 2041 development plan, has initiated high-level discussions regarding special planning and arrangements for hosting the 2036 Olympics in the city. As part of this plan, AUDA has proposed the construction of a new ring road in the district, parallel to the existing S.P. Ring Road. Currently, the existing ring road is 76 km long, and the new ring road will be approximately 100 to 125 km in length.
Additionally, the existing 4-lane S.P. Ring Road will be expanded to 6 lanes at a cost of ₹2,100 crore. If the tender process is completed soon, the 6-lane road is expected to be ready in three years. The state government has approved ₹2,100 crore for the expansion, and AUDA has included this work in the 2041 development plan.
The preliminary estimate for the new parallel ring road is ₹575 crore, although the tender amount may rise depending on market rates.
