State Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA) officials raided a facility in Banaskantha suspected of producing and selling paneer made using harmful substances.
Acting on a tip-off, FDCA officials raided Alia Milk Products in the GIDC area of Chhapi in Banaskantha district. The raid uncovered the use of non-food grade acetic acid and palmolein in paneer production. Seven containers of these adulterants were found.
“The owner of the facility, Karodiya Umarfarak Abdul Rahman, was found to be operating without a food production license,” said FDCA commissioner H G Koshia.
Samples were collected for analysis. The remaining 915kg of suspected adulterated paneer, estimated to be worth Rs 2 lakh, was seized.
Koshia added, “We are getting details about where the adulterated paneer was sent.
The factory owner was procuring raw material from someone who did not have food processing licence.”
