Society chairperson, secys get notices; 748 units sealed
n a first-ever move, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has issued notices to chairpersons and secretaries of 27 residential societies in the South Zone, demanding payment of outstanding property tax dues. The AMC has warned that if dues are not cleared, water and drainage connections could be disconnected.
On Tuesday, the South Zone Tax Department sealed 279 commercial properties with overdue tax dues and collected Rs 36 lakh. This crackdown comes as part of an on-going drive by to recover unpaid property taxes.
Notices have been sent to both residential and commercial defaulters, asking them to settle their outstanding dues immediately. In some cases, AMC plans to take legal action, including property seizures and auctions. In the East Zone, 14 societies have been issued notices, while 469 units, with unpaid property taxes amounting to Rs 35.16 lakh, were sealed. Additionally, 150 businesses with unpaid professional taxes were sealed and Rs 18.26 lakh tax was collected.
