Ek hain toh safe hain’ now India’s chant: PM’s dig after NDA’s Maharashtra win

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Congress, reiterating his slogan “Ek hain toh safe hain” (United, we are safe), which he declared has become the nation’s ‘maha-mantra’ (national chant

Speaking to BJP workers at the party headquarters in New Delhi, PM Modi said, “After Haryana, the biggest takeaway from the Maharashtra elections is the message of unity. ‘Ek hain toh safe hain’ has resonated as the ‘maha-mantra’ of the nation.”

The Prime Minister also pointed out that the sentiment of unity had delivered a powerful blow to forces attempting to divide the nation along lines of caste, religion, language, and region.

“This mantra has taught a lesson to those who propagate division. It has punished them. Tribals, OBCs, Dalits, and every section of society have rallied behind the BJP-NDA. This is a strong rebuttal to the Congress and INDI alliance’s divisive agenda,” he added.

The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance secured a decisive victory in Maharashtra on Saturday, retaining control over 230 of the 288 Assembly seats. Meanwhile, the Maha Vikas Aghadi’s dreams to reclaim power were dashed, as the opposition bloc managed to take the lead in only 50 seats.

Further in his address, the Prime Minister lauded the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance for achieving a monster win in the Maharashtra Assembly elections.

“This time Maharashtra has broken all records. This is the biggest victory for any party or pre-poll alliance in Maharashtra in the last 50 years. This is the third consecutive time that Maharashtra has blessed the alliance led by BJP. For the third time, BJP has emerged as the largest party in Maharashtra,” PM Modi said.

Mocking the Congress and the INDIA bloc, the Prime Minister said, “BJP has got more seats than Congress and its allies. Maharashtra is the sixth state in the country which has given a mandate to the BJP three times in a row”.

The BJP dominated the race in Maharashtra, leading or winning in 133 of the 149 seats it contested, while the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) totted 56 and Ajit Pawar’s NCP 41. In contrast, the Congress was ahead in just 16, the Shiv Sena(UBT) in 21 and the NCP(SP) in 10.
