Artistic expressions explode at Abhivyakti

Day one of the sixth annual edition of Abhivyakti – The City Arts Project was a night dedicated to stunning performances loaded with a message for all in the audience. The event was kick-started with much aplomb on Thursday with the premiere of Saurabh Joshi’s Oh Womaniya, a theatrical performance filled with an artistic mix of humour, satire and music; together, they weave a story around the situations created by mundane questions that a woman is asked in her daily life. The classical contemporary performance Sangitkarini Tana Riria by Khushi Langaliya — Bharatnatyam exponent, actor and performer — was a tribute to Tana and Riri, sibling singers from 16th Century Vadnagar, known for their soulful voices and connection to Gujarati musical folklore. Staying true to the theme of this year’s festival — Stories from the Soul — this artistic celebration will bring together various forms of performing arts for all, and is a must visit through the weekend and into the week.

When: Today, 7.15 pm onwards
Entry: Open for all

The hero reimagined

An interplay of power, vulnerability, and transformation, the dynamic dance performance ‘Becoming Hero’ by Akanksha Kumari and Jasmine Yadav aims to unpack the machismo of the “hero” archetype. Through Bollywood-inspired choreography, the duo challenges traditional notions of heroism, reimaging it in ways that embrace fluidity and nuance. As power melts into vulnerability, the performance asks the audience what it truly means to be a hero. The two dancers will also facilitate a movement workshop which will provide participants with the space to fantasize, move, and pose questions through the body.
