Four individuals hailing from Gujarat lost their lives in a fiery car accident that occurred on the intertwining night of Wednesday and Thursday in Toronto, Canada.
The accident happened at around 12:15 a.m. on October 24 on Lake Shore Boulevard near Cherry Street in downtown Toronto. The vehicle lost control, hit a guardrail, and then collided with a concrete pillar. Following the impact, the vehicle caught fire, Canadian media reported on Thursday morning.
Three men and one woman, identified as Neelraj Gohil, Ketaba Gohil, Digvijay Patel, and Jay Sisodia, were declared dead at the scene, while another driver nearby at the time of the accident stopped and was able to rescue Jhalak Patel, who was later transported to the hospital with the help of Toronto Paramedic Services.
Neelraj and Ketaba Gohil are siblings from Godhra. They are the children of Sanjay Singh Gohil, a retired employee of the Panchmahal District Bank in Godhra. On the other hand, Digvijay Patel and Jay Sisodia hail from Anand district. Jay is the son of Professor Harendrasinh Sisodia of Bhadran College and is also the nephew of former Borsad MLA Rajendra Singh Parmar.
According to preliminary information, the group was returning home after celebrating a friend’s birthday when the incident occurred. “With the assistance of District Collector Godhra CK Raul and MP Rajpalsinh Jadav, we have contacted the Government of India to expedite the process of retrieving the bodies of our sons and daughters and bringing them back to their homeland,” a relative of Neelraj Gohil told the media.
The cause of the driver losing control of the vehicle remains unclear. However, according to Canadian authorities, the severity of the fire was “directly linked” to the Tesla’s battery cells.
