At least 181 talukas received rainfall during the last 24 hours, ending Thursday 6am, even as the Southwest Monsoon withdrew from parts of Gujarat such as Surendranagar and Junagadh.With the fresh spell of rain, the average rainfall percentage has increased to 128.24 per cent as on Thursday.
The Southwest Monsoon started retreating from Kutch this Monday. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), Umarpada in Surat district recorded the highest of 172 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours ending Monday 6 am. Surat city and Lilia in Amreli received 83 mm rain, Vadodara 80 mm, Navsari 74 mm, Jetpur Pavi and Chhota Udepur 70 and 65 mm respectively.
Central districts and parts of Saurashtra also received heavy rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday.
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) Gandhinagar rainfall data, Kutch received highest rain share 183.32 per cent this season while South Gujarat recorded 133.54 per cent followed by Saurashtra 131.59 per cent, East Central Gujarat 126.04 per cent and North Gujarat 109.04 per cent.
The rainfall activity in the state is attributed to the cyclonic circulation over Madhya Maharashtra.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued forecast of very heavy rains for districts of Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Valsad and Bhavnagar on Friday along with heavy rains in Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi and Navsari; in the districts of Saurashtra namely Amreli, Gir Somnath.
Other parts across the state are also expected to receive light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning and surface wind 30- 40 kmph (in gust).
On Saturday too, heavy rains are expected in the districts of Surat, Navsari, Valsad and Bhavnagar.
