The newly launched Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro rail service seems to be popular among commuters, as around 5,000 people took a metro ride on its first day of operation.
According to the GMRC, while the final number is expected soon, initial estimates suggest that 5,000 people traveled on the Metro, with many shifting from taxis to the metro, which has an affordable fare of Rs. 35. Currently, only the Motera to Sector 1 and GNLU to GIFT City routes are operational, and officials expect ridership to grow once the metro extends to Sachivalaya and Akshardham.
In another update, the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail Service between Ahmedabad and Bhuj also saw 320 passengers board the train from different stations in Ahmedabad. As this train operates as a local service with unreserved seating, ticket sales are handled at counters. According to officials, the train’s popularity will be clearer once weekly, fortnightly, and monthly passes become available.
