The Mahila Police Station East has arrested Azharuddin Shaikh, a resident of the Danilimda area, for allegedly forcing a minor girl, who was riding as a passenger on a motorcycle, to stop and demanding that she remove her burqa. Shaikh is also accused of verbally abusing the girl.
The police confirmed that Shaikh was apprehended after a complaint from the girl’s father. The accused has been booked under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, as well as sections 127 (wrongful confinement) and 509 (words, gestures, or acts intended to insult a woman’s modesty).
Police officials stated that the girl’s father has requested that this matter be handled sensitively. The minor was passing through the Danilimda area when Shaikh stopped her. A video that has gone viral allegedly shows Shaikh questioning the identity of the youth driving the motorcycle and insisting that the girl remove her burqa.
When the girl refused, Shaikh reportedly hurled insults at both her and the youth. The video also depicts several other individuals present at the scene.
