The Regional Transport Office (RTO) collected Rs 2.31 lakh fine during a special drive to check vehicles, including school buses unsafe for commuting children in Ahmedabad.
The squad collected fines from 60 vehicles carrying school children and 20 school buses for for not following safety rules while ferrying children to school.
In the past month, three meetings were held with the association of school vehicles to ensure safety permits for their vehicles, “yet 600 vehicles had no such permits”. Ahmedabad has 3000 vehicles ferrying children to school. After Rajkot fire incident at TRP game zone, the state transport department had issued a circular to all the RTOs to ensure the safety of students, following which District Education Officials, RTO and traffic officials had met with the school authorities.
