The Chandipura Virus continues to spread in Gujarat, as 16 districts have reported 23 positive cases. On July 24, a total of 17 suspected cases were reported, bringing the tally of suspected cases to 118.
Moreover, with three more suspected Chandipura-related deaths, the total death toll has risen to 41.
In Gujarat, there are 54 patients admitted with viral encephalitis, while 23 were discharged on July 24.
In Ahmedabad, two suspected Chandipura patients are currently receiving treatment at Civil Hospital in Asarwa – one from Banaskantha and one from Dehgam.
So far, nine samples have been sent from Civil to Pune’s National Institute of Virology (NIV). Out of them, two tested positive.
There have been a total of 41 deaths from suspected Chandipura virus, with the highest number of five deaths in Panchmahal and four deaths in Amdavad Municipal Corporation area.
A health team from the Centre is currently in Sabarkantha to assess the situation.
