The Ahmedabad crime branch registered an FIR against a user of social media platform X for circulating a deepfake vide of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The FIR was registered on the directions of state Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi.
According to crime branch sources, the IP address of X user Chirag Patel has been found to be of foreign origin. “The X account holder has mimicked a video of UFM Sitharaman addressing a press conference on GST. We have registered an FIR,” said police. The video clip shows Sitharaman purportedly terming Goods and Services Tax as the Gopaniya Suchna Tax
“Gujarat Police have registered an FIR against this person for spreading this deep fake video. Trying to mislead citizens,” he tweeted.
