A second-year orthopaedic resident doctor has alleged relentless harassment by his medical teacher at BJ Medical College, associated with Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.
The official complaint, filed on Monday, detailed serious allegations of harassment continuing for over a year, including the forced harassment of junior resident doctors.
This incident comes just one month after the administration of Narendra Modi Medical College (NMMC) in Ahmedabad suspended four Senior Resident (SR) doctors for varying terms on charges of ragging their juniors.
The medical student in question had sent out a message expressing intent to die by suicide due to the constant harassment by his PG teacher, an Associate Professor in the Orthopaedic department.
The breakdown of the postgraduate (PG) medical student came to light over the weekend when student leaders took up the issue on social media, leading to an outcry on the generational toxicity prevalent in India’s medical colleges.
