Ahmedabad school transport resumes after 2-day strike; RTO allows 45-60 days for permits

School transport via vans and rickshaws resumed today in the city after the Ahmedabad School Vardhi Association called off the strike that had been ongoing for the last two days. The Regional Transport Office (RTO) authorities have granted a window of 45-60 days to complete the process of obtaining vehicle fitness certificates and permits.

The decision came after a meeting with RTO authorities, led by J.J. Patel in Ahmedabad. A period of 45-60 days has been given to obtain registration, fitness certificates, and passing permits for school transport vehicles. During this period, drivers will be liable for any incidents or accidents involving their vehicles, with strict enforcement of regulations.

The RTO emphasized that all rules pertaining to school transport vehicles will be strictly enforced. Vans can carry up to 14 children under the age of 12, or up to 7 children aged 12 and above. Rickshaws are allowed to carry a maximum of 6 children under the age of 12, or up to 3 children aged 12 and above. The fare structure for school transport remains unchanged as of now.

The strike also concluded in Surat earlier today, while in Vadodara, it remained ineffective. The ending of the strike brought relief to the parents.
