Unable to calm down his two-year-old daughter who was unwell and had been crying inconsolably, a 25-year-old ragpicker strangled her and dumped her body near the pillar of a bridge over Harnav River at Khedbrahma in Sabarkantha.
The accused, Mukesh Valmiki, was caught by walkers near the bridge and handed over to the police.
They rushed the child to Khedbrahma Civil Hospital where a doctor declared her brought dead.
A panel postmortem on the body revealed damage to the lungs and respiratory system due to strangling as the cause of her death. Valmiki was later booked for murder.
