Cholera cases are rising exponentially in the city. In the first four months of 2024, cases nearly doubled compared to 2022 and exceeded half of the cases reported in 2023.
According to the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC), the city saw 64 cases from January 1 to May 18 this year. This is 182% of the total 35 cases reported in 2022 and is 67% of the total 95 cases in 2023. Between May 1 and May 18, 24 cases of Cholera were reported, which is more than one case per day. The highest number of Cholera cases this month came from the wards of Ramol-Hathijan, Danilimda, Lambha, Bhaipura, Indrapuri, Vastral, Jamalpur, Khokhara, Sarkhej, Vatva and Amraiwadi.
There are also 300 cases of Typhoid, 107 cases of Jaundice and 1,078 cases of diarrhoea and vomiting in the first 18 days of May in the city. There is also an uptick in vector-borne diseases with 26 cases of Vivax Malaria, zero cases of Falciparum Malaria, 44 cases of Dengue and zero cases of Chikungunya.
