The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport authorities have decided to introduce strict measures to make SVPIA a ‘tout free zone’ to prevent frequent frictions between security personnel and auto-cab drivers considering the safety of passengers.
The airport, of late, has reported several incidents of clashes between security staff and auto cab drivers over picking up passengers. A similar incident occurred on Saturday night following which the authorities have taken the decision.
On Saturday night, a scuffle broke out between the security staff of the airport and the auto drivers in the presence of the passengers in the arrival area of the domestic terminal. The incident left three security personnel injured while several vehicles were also vandalized.
The autorickshaw driver also suffered injuries in this incident. Later, both the parties filed complaints at the airport police station. About 230 flights, including 40 international flights, arrive and depart from the Ahmedabad airport daily.
Such incidents have been rampant at the Ahmedabad airport. These incidents pose threat to passengers’ safety and also tarnish the image of the Ahmedabad airport which is considered as a hyper sensitive airport. That is why we will propose at the highest level to make SVPIA a ‘Tout Free Zone’ through strict laws.
