Acting on a tip-off, the police raided Akanksha Apartments, opposite the Sevi Swaraj Sports Club at Jagatpur and arrested six speculators and launched a search for more than four wanted persons. The six persons were found playing gambling through laptops and phones while the match was played on TV. A total of five laptops, 17 mobile phones and bottles of liquor were seized from the house.
The accused had bought IDs for cricket betting from persons in Delhi and Mumbai and used to collect bets from persons in Rajasthan. Revealing their modus operandi, police said, the bettors ran a betting network by gathering their customers on an online application for a meeting. Six accused include Pravin Ghanchi, Deepak Kumar, Yatin Khurana, Harendra Didel, Basant Kumar (all resident of Sevi Swaraj) and Ashish Paliwal (resident of Pacifica society in VaishnoDevi). Police investigation reveals that accused Pravin and Deepak had gathered all other people to play gambling in the flat.
