Bombay court ordered police to probe molestation charge against Prithvi Shaw

The ongoing legal saga between cricketer Prithvi Shaw and social media influencer Sapna Gill has entered a new chapter as Bombay court on Wednesday has directed the Mumbai Police to conduct an enquiry into the matter and provide a detailed report by June 19. The court issued the order after Sapna Gill filed a complaint in the court accusing Prithvi Shaw on the charges molestation.

The case related to scuffle between Sapna Gill and Prithvi Shaw last year in February in a pub in Mumbai’s Andheri area. Sapna Gill was arrested for hitting Shaw’s car with a baseball bat. Later, she filed molestation charges against the Delhi Capitals opener.

Prithvi Shaw, currently playing for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024, has featured in 2 out of 3 matches. He scored 43 runs against Chennai Super Kings but was dismissed for 10 runs in the previous game against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Sapna Gill files molestation complaint against Prithvi Shaw

Sapna Gill has lodged a molestation complaint against Prithvi Shaw and his friend Ashish Yadav, citing sections 354, 509, and 324 of the Indian Penal Code. The case has been assigned to Additional Metropolitan Magistrate SC Tayde, who has directed the Mumbai Police to investigate and report back by June 19. Notably, an earlier investigation by the Mumbai Police did not find Shaw guilty. This development follows a viral video from last year showing Gill and her friend Shobit Thakur assaulting Shaw’s car with a baseball bat, resulting in the car’s windscreen being broken. In response to Shaw’s complaint, the Mumbai Police had arrested Gill and Thakur for the incident.

Police didn’t find molestation claims true in previous investigation

In a previous investigation, police found no evidence to support Sapna Gill’s molestation claims against Prithvi Shaw. CCTV footage from the Andheri hotel where the incident allegedly occurred showed Gill and Shobit Thakur intoxicated and attempting to take selfies with Shaw, who declined. There were no instances of Gill being molested, as confirmed by both CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts. Further CCTV footage from the Air Traffic Control tower showed Gill and Thakur following Shaw’s car. A CRPF official present at the scene corroborated that Gill attacked Shaw’s car with a baseball bat, leading to a broken windscreen. The official also stated that Thakur intervened to take the bat from Gill upon seeing the police. Following these findings and Shaw’s complaint, police arrested Gill and Thakur in connection with the incident.
