ACB Gujarat nabs a newspaper editor, accomplice in bribe case

The Anti-Corruption Bureau of Gujarat nabbed an editor of a weekly newspaper and his accomplice in a bribery case involving the sum of Rs. 2,00,000 in the city.

The mobile accessories shop of the complainant’s brother was raided by the SGST department around 4-5 months ago. Subsequently, the accused, Kiransinh Vijaysinh Champawat, Editor of “Jansahayak Samachar” (weekly), in the name of SGST department officers, initially demanded Rs. 50 lakhs from the complainant to assist in the proceedings of the SGST department. However, after negotiations, the bribe amount was set at Rs. 21 lakh. The first installment of these Rs. 21 lakhs was to be paid as Rs. 2 lakhs, with the remainder to be paid in two further installments.

As the complainant did not wish to pay the bribe amount, he contacted the ACB. Later, in a trap set up by ACB Gujarat, accused Kiransinh Champawat spoke to the complainant on the telephone and instructed him to give the bribe money to his accomplice and another accused in the case, Santoshkumar Tekwani (resident of Nana Chiloda). Accordingly, Santoshkumar accepted the bribe amount from the complainant and was caught red-handed while committing the crime at Ravi Pan Palace near Indira Bridge Circle. The above accused have been detained, and further action has been taken.
