The Gujarat State Primary Education Selection Committee (GSPESC) has released the notification for Gujarat special educator post with a total vacancy of 3,000 candidates. However, against the huge vacancy, only 188 candidates have shown interest in the state.
This is the first time that the state announced recruitment for permanent special educators. The last date for applying is Feb 28.
A total of 3,000 have been announced for special educators (classes 1-8) including 1,861 for classes 1 to 5 and 1,139 for classes 6 to 8.
In a shocking revelation, only 188 applicants were so far keen to opt for the role. Out 188 35 are TET-1 qualified and 153 are TET-2 qualified.
With only 188 candidates applying, and the recruitment taking place a year after the advertisement of the recruitment, a demand to increase the age limit for the candidates has shaped up. The current age limit is 40, which is proposed to be increased to 45.
Currently, there are about 1,000 contract-based special educators in government schools.
Following an order of the Supreme Court, the central government had instructed the states to recruit special educators in state schools.
After which the state government had released a notification to recruit teachers for eight out of 21 specially-abled categories of children.
The recruitment involved merit-based selection from TET-1 and TET-2 examination and interview in April 2023.
