Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, informed Gujarat high court on Monday that it might introduce the reservation policy in its PhD programme from the 2025 academic year.
After resisting quota in doctoral courses for a few years, the institute agreed for it in response to a PIL filed by the Global IIM Alumni Network. During the hearing on Monday, the petitioner submitted that the IIM, Ahmedabad affidavit only mentioned that reservation would be introduced, and insisted that the institute should elaborate on when it intended to do that.
IIM-A’s counsel said the institute was likely to introduce the quota policy from the academic year that will commence in 2025, since the admission process for the 2024 batch had already started. The petitioner had approached the HC in 2021 “in the interest of candidates from communities of scheduled tribes, scheduled castes and other backward classes and persons with disabilities”.
