A man posing as a ‘director’ in the ED cheated woman of Rs 1.50 crore by promising to get them government contracts.
Zarna Thakar (40) a resident of Sudarshan Tower, works for a company in Satellite which provides astrology and puja-related services.her employer, Ravi Rao, lives in Bopal. In March, Rao was searching for a paying guest for his house for which Thakar approached realtors.
One realtor approached Thakar on March 3 and introduced her to one Omveer Singh. She said Singh told her that he was an IRS officer serving as a director in the ED.
Singh gave her his visiting card which stated this, the FIR says. Thakar said Singh liked Rao’s house and agreed to rent it for Rs 2 lakh a month for 11 months.
Singh told Rao he had links in the government, and he could help secure government contracts. One of Rao’s clients, Pradip Jha, wanted a government contract, for which Rao approached Singh.
After negotiations, Singh told Rao he would take Rs 1.50 crore for a government contract, which was paid to him. Singh then left the house after living there for only three months
Whenever Rao asked about the government contract, he did not give satisfactory replies and later went incommunicado. Thakar was then instructed to approached the police.
