After the implementation of the Land Grabbing Act in Gujarat, several cases of encroachment on agricultural land and common man’s land have come to light. The Ahmedabad District Collector recived as many as 2016 applications under the Land Grabbing Act. while 24 applications have been taken under action as suo moto.
FIR has been lodged in 96 applications out of 2016 applications under Land Grabbing Act in Ahmedabad Collectorate. In which 409 persons have been accused. Apart from that, a committee under the chairmanship of the District Collector has also been formed to verify that some elements do not make false complaints or applications in someone’s land through the loophole of the law. The meeting of this committee is held once in a month.
In the 2016 applications received by the Ahmedabad Collector, land grabbing was claimed on 2.85 crore square meters of land. The cost of which is 2985 crores. The net worth of which is 727 crores. However, the committee has rejected as many as 1627 applications. Among the applications, preliminary investigation has been completed on 287 applications. While 1436 applications have taken more time than the stipulated time for preliminary investigation. While 34 cases have been referred to the special court. As many as 317 cases are pending inquiry.
