Polling for three seats of Rajya Sabha in Gujarat will take place on July 24 if it is required. The names of the candidates will be clear by 13th July which is the last date for making nominations. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is July 17.
The election will take place due to the retirement of the term of sitting Rajya Sabha members Dineshchandra Jemalbhai Anavadiya, Juagalsinh Mathurji Lokhandwala, and Subramanyam Jaishankar Krishnaswamy (External Affairs Minister of India). Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Gujarat is capable to retain all three seats.
While S Jaishankar’s possible renomination will not surprise anyone, the two other retiring Rajya Sabha members lack any stature or performance and are most likely to be replaced with new faces. Counting of votes if required will take place on July 26.
