In Surat 19 board exam students found involved in malpractices

The names of 19 students who were found to have participated in alleged malpractice in Class 10 and 12 examinations were forwarded to the Education Department on Thursday for further action.

Therteen Class 10 students, including seven from a single classroom, were among the 19 students who were involved in malpractices. Four students from the Commerce batch and two Class 12 science students were also allegedly caught cheating.

“We have taken statements from the students who were found cheating. All the students first denied the offence. Later we showed them the CCTV footage after which they admitted to the act and apologised. We have also taken the statements of the classroom hall supervisor. It is up to the state education department to decide (further course of action) and we will implement the instructions,” Surat DEO Dr. Deepak Darjee said.

The report was prepared after examining CCTV footage submitted by different schools. The DEO had summoned all the students and hall supervisors for inquiry.

Around 1.62 lakh students from Surat had appeared for Class 10 and 12 exams conducted by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Board that was held between March 14 and March 29. Surat had the highest number of students appearing for board exams in the state.

The exams were conducted under the strict supervision of district education department officials across 540 examination centres in the city.
