A police officer reported that three people, including a councillor from Sardarpur, were died on Tuesday when their speeding car collided with a multi-axle truck on the Indore-Ahmedabad national highway in the Dhar district.
Around 3.30 am, the accident happened close to the Bhopavar intersection, roughly a half-kilometer from Sardarpur tehsil headquarters. According to Ram Singh Medha, a sub-divisional officer of police in Sardarpur, the truck was struck from the rear by the car, killing three people inside the car instantly.
Those who were killed in the accident include Pratham, 27, son of Gopal Garg, a councillor from Ward No 7 in Sardarpur municipal council, Akshay, 27, son of Atul Trivedi, both residents of Sardarpur and Sandeep, 28, son of Shankarlal Rathore, a resident of Dalpura village in Rajgarh.
One can gauge the intensity of the accident on the basis that the rescue team engaged a crane to pull a car, which turned into rubble, from the rear end of a truck. The team pulled bodies out of the car with great difficulty. The squad had a terrible time getting the bodies out of the car. After the post-mortem at Community Health Center, the bodies of the three deceased were returned to their families.
During the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the truck dragged the car, which was trapped behind, up to 150 metres after an accident.
Speed breaker could be reason behind accident
The accident took place near the Bheru police outpost under Sardarpur police station. During the preliminary investigation, it came to light that the truck was moving from Dhar to Sardarpur. Some of the eyewitnesses claimed that the car was moving behind the truck at the same speed as the truck. It is being told that due to the speed breaker, the truck driver might apply breaks to reduce the speed of the vehicle, only then the speeding car coming from behind ram into the truck from the rear end.
Councilor was married two years ago
Councilor Pratham Garg, who died in the tragedy, was married two years ago and owned a grocery store. Akshay’s father is a school teacher, and Akshay was not yet married when Pratham defeated the BJP candidate in the most recent local body elections by a margin of 30 votes. Akshay used to live in the councilor’s house on rent, both were good friends.
Second accident on the road within a week
Only a week back, four people, including a father–son duo died in a road accident near Bheru Chowki on the Indore-Ahmedabad four-lane road. The incident took place on Monday night, when the four persons, including two farmers who were collecting wheat scattered on the road, were run over by a speeding Eicher vehicle. Only a week later, three more people lost their lives. Locals claimed that there are many loopholes in the four-lane, but the toll company remains careless even after the accidents. Even the officials are not paying attention.
When Free Press contacted SDOP Ramsingh Meda said that the administration will soon take appropriate steps and make adequate security arrangements to prevent accidents at Bhopar’s four-lane square.
