As many as 1,500 people intending to avail bank loans attended a loan fair organised by Rajkot city police in the city on Wednesday.
Raju Bhargav, the police commissioner of Rajkot, presided over the fair, which was held to encourage cooperation between banks and borrowers seeking loans in order to prevent people from falling into the traps of high-interest private lenders.
Representatives from 13 banks and three government agencies were on hand to answer questions about bank loans. According to an official release, 120 women from Women’s Self-Help Groups in 12 villages under the jurisdiction of Kuvadva Road police station were given Rs 18 lakh loans under various government schemes.
The police commissioner also returned 40 stolen and recovered phones to their owners over the last three years. In all, police recovered 3,816 mobile phones during this period, the release added.
