The Rajkot Municipal Corporation’s (RMC) standing committee on Tuesday approved a proposal to hire two private companies to process and dispose of approximately six lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste that have accumulated on the civic body’s landfill in Nakrawadi village outside of Rajkot.
The hiring of Jai Vachhraj Roadways and Earthmovers, Porbandar, and Madhav Enterprise, Ankleshwar for the processing and disposal of three lakh metric tonnes each of legacy waste, was approved by the standing committee.
For the processing and disposal of the waste, the municipal entity will pay private businesses Rs 323 per tonne. The RMC has taken on the work as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission 2, which is a programme by which the Central government financially supports urban local bodies in the handling and disposal of legacy waste.
