It was a narrow escape for Navsari Additional District Judge on Friday when a convict attacked him with a stone while hearing a case in the courtroom.
The Navsari District Bar Association condemned the incident and demanded an investigation.
According to Advocate Pratapsinh Mahida, the incident occurred in the courtroom of Additional District Judge R.R. Desai. Accused Dharmesh threw a stone at the female judge who narrowly escaoed being hit. The officers on duty immediately rounded up the accused and led him out of the courtroom. The accused had carried a stone from the jail premises.
According to Mahida, the accused has a history of attacking judges, but the Japta police took no precautionary measures. Previously, the accused had thrown a shoe at the judge.
The Bar Association is demanding an investigation into the role of the police, whether they had any prior information and why the accused were not subjected to physical frisking before being brought before the court.
