Climate change will have a significant impact on urban areas, hot days will ramp up, while rainfall will increase in Gujarat. To address these issues, municipal corporations in cities such as Ahmedabad, Rajkot, and Surat should increase forestation, while chemical usage should be limited, according to a report.
According to a report released earlier this year, the Gujarat government, in collaboration with the Vasudha Foundation and other organisations, has prepared a climate change action plan for the Ahmedabad and Rajkot districts.
According to the report’s findings, “Since 2005, greenhouse gas emissions have increased by 78%, energy sector emissions have increased by 71.32%, and water sector emissions have increased by 7.06%. If current trends continue, emissions are expected to increase by 96% by 2030.”
According to Rini Dutt, the main author of the action plan report, the impact of climate change is expected to increase rainfall by 8 to 17% in Ahmedabad and 10 to 12% in Rajkot. In Ahmedabad and Rajkot, there will be more rainy days in July and August.
According to the study, both cities will become hotter in the coming years. Warm days have increased by 10% in Rajkot and by 8 to 10 per cent in Ahmedabad in recent years.
According to Dutt and Manjusha Mukherjee, warm days will increase by 45% in Ahmedabad and 53% in Rajkot in the coming years. The number of cold days will decrease in both cities.
