SpiceJet will operate at full capacity beginning October 30

The Indian aviation regulator DGCA lifted the 50% cap on SpiceJet flights on Friday.

Business News

SpiceJet airline can operate at full capacity beginning with the winter schedule, which runs from October 30th to March 25th, 2023.

In the winter schedule, airlines will operate 21,941 domestic flights per week. The number of weekly flights will be 1.55% lower than the previous winter schedule of 22,287 flights.

“In the upcoming Winter Schedule 2022, 21,941 departures per week have been approved from 105 airports. Out of these 105 airports Deoghar, Shimla and Rourkela are the new airports proposed by the scheduled airlines,” had quoted DGCA as saying.

Out of the total 21,941 departures, the maximum will be by IndiGo at 10,085 followed by SpiceJet at 3,193.

Air India will have 1,990 departures, Vistara (1,941), Air Asia (1,462), Go Air (1,390), Alliance Air (1,034), Akasa Air (479) .

In September, DGCA had extended the restriction that it placed on the low cost airline on July 27. Under the restriction, airline was asked to curtail flights by 50%.

Following a string of eight incidents in less than a month, the DGCA issued a show cause notice to SpiceJet in the first week of July for failing to establish safe, efficient, and reliable services. The airline was given three weeks to explain why no action should be taken against it.
