In Gujarat’s Jamnagar on Monday, two people were electrocuted and fifteen others were injured at the time of the accident, the crowd was participating in a taziya procession to mark Muharram at the time of the mishap.
Muharram is regarded as the second holiest month in the Islamic calendar, following Ramadan. It’s common to refer to this month’s first day as Hijri, or the Arabic New Year.
Muharram, which is observed as a period of intense mourning, is highly celebrated in Muslim societies.
July 31, the month of Muharram 2022 officially began in India. It ends on August 9.
It is stated that during the month of Muharram, the Prophet Imam Hussain was killed in the battle of Karbala. Taziya is a replica of the mausoleum of Imam Hussain, and are made in numerous forms and sizes.
The word taziya is derived from the Arabic word aza which means commemorating the dead. Members of the Muslim community accompany the taziya in a procession with drums and chanting Ya Hussain.
