It seems that more students are pursuing a Master of Commerce (MCom) this year. Gujarat University has approved three more Post Graduate Centres in its affiliated colleges to meet the increased demand for MCom.
The three centres have been started at Gujarat College, Gandhinagar Government College and Sanand Arts and Commerce College from the current academic year. The new centres will add 300 more seats, 100 in each centre taking the total seats to 4,700.
Jashwant Thakkar, dean of commerce section, said that the surge in demand requires having more PG centres. “Three more centres are expected to get permission to start Master’s degree courses in GU affiliated colleges. Having more PG centres will help students who otherwise have to opt for the external course option. Enrolling as regular PG students has several benefits for students, not only in job but for those wishing to go overseas for further studies,” he said.
As GU opened registrations for MCom course, 4,951 students registered, of which 2,352 candidates have made payment and 146 have completed verification.
“We expect registration to close at 8,000. We have been seeing good response in MCom program which is why more centres are allowed to open. Students who live in the periphery areas have the option to study as regular students if PG centres are opened closeby,” he said.
