Gujarat reported a new high in COVID-19 cases since the Omicron variant was first reported in June this year.
The state recorded over 717 new cases on Thursday while 309 new infections were reported in Ahmedabad city in the last 24 hours.
The new cases in Gujarat follow the earlier record of 665 cases reported on July 6. Ahmedabad leads in COVID-19 cases with smaller districts also reporting a marginal surge in Covid numbers.
Ahmedabad city reported 309 new infections on Thursday. Surat City reported 88 new cases while there were 31 cases in Gandhinagar City and 29 in Vadodara City.
No official Covid deaths were reported in the state on Thursday. The state’s official Covid toll stands at 10,948.
The total number of active Covid cases in Gujarat was 3,879 of which one was on a ventilator.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Thursday announced four micro-containment zones in the city. Of the four micro-containment zones, two each were in the South and West Zone.
Four houses in Orchid Harmony with 23 people and another four in Swati Florence with eight people were declared as micro containment areas in the South zone while four houses in Ashraya-9 with 18 people and 6 houses in Shakuntala Flat with 24 people were declared as no-go areas in the West Zone.
