The AMC will begin checking for masks in commercial establishments on Monday, as the city’s Covid-19 cases rise from 44 on Tuesday to 80 on Saturday.
The state government and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation are gearing up to act strict with the mask rule and Covid protocols in public places.
AMC officials will start checking for masks and Covid protocols at commercial establishments from Monday. Advising people to keep their mask up while visiting public places. On Saturday, 154 new Covid-19 cases were reported from across the state, taking the tally to 12,26,112, while the death toll remained unchanged at 10,945, as per the health department release.
Ahmedabad continued to lead with 80 cases, followed by 34 in Vadodara, 15 in Surat, among other districts.
“With corona cases doubling up in the last few days, the civic body has stepped up testing and will increase checking. AMC teams will conduct checking at commercial complexes for Covid protocols and will also fine the violators,” Dr Bhavin Solanki, AMC Medical Officer of Health said.
The AMC has begun conducting Covid tests at bus stops and railway stations, while setting up testing domes at different places in the city.
Meanwhile, the state government has also doubled testing. Till last week, nearly 10,000 Covid tests were conducted daily across the state. The state government is advising people to follow Covid protocols strictly and wear masks.
