The state government has decided to postpone a government resolution (GR) to fail students in Class 5 and 8 for this year because of the Covid-19 situation.
Education Minister Jitu Vaghani announced the decision in a tweet on Monday, saying that the government has decided not to implement a resolution dated September 21, 2019 that allowed schools to fail students in Class 5 and Class 8.
His tweet said that exams conducted for the 2022-23 academic year will not fail any students from Class 1 to Class 8 because of the pandemic situation.
However, a few years ago many state governments had approached the union government asking permission to fail students in Class 1 to 8 as many undeserving students were getting promoted without proper evaluation which causes problems for the students in the future.
Following this, the state government issued a resolution in 2019 stating that schools would be permitted to fail students in the Class 5 and Class 8 exams.
However, due to the pandemic situation, this resolution was not implemented. The state government has decided that it will not be implemented this year as well.
