Petrol, diesel price increase again, Fifth Time In 6 Days

For the fifth day in a row on Sunday, the price of petrol was raised by 50 paise per litre and the price of diesel was increased by 55 paise per litre, bringing the total increase in rates since the Start of daily price revisions less than a week ago to Rs 3.70-3.75 per litre.

According to a price announcement from state fuel dealers, petrol will now cost Rs 99.11 per litre in Delhi, up from Rs 98.61 before, and diesel will cost Rs 90.42 per litre, up from Rs 89.87 previously.

Rates have been raised across the country, and they differ from state to state based on the amount of municipal taxation. This is the fifth price rise since the end of a four-and-a-half-month rate review break on March 22.

Prices have been raised by 80 pence per litre on each of the preceding four occasions, the largest single-day increase since the daily price revision was established in June 2017. In the last six days, petrol prices have risen by Rs 3.70 per litre and diesel prices have risen by Rs 3.75 per litre.

Prices had been frozen since November 4 in anticipation of assembly elections in provinces such as Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, during which time the cost of raw materials (crude oil) had risen by USD 30 a barrel. This is the fifth price rise since the end of a four-and-a-half-month rate review break on March 22.
