The 14th All India Girnar Ascending and Descending competition was held on Sunday after being postponed for the previous two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The competition drew 449 participants from 11 states across the country.
Tapsi Singh from Uttar Pradesh and Parmar Lala from Gujarat’s Junagadh won the senior category, which was divided into four categories of senior-junior brothers and sisters.
In the junior category, Ritu Sindhuraj of Haryana and Deepak Dhabhi of Gujarat finished first and second, respectively. Several records were broken during the competition. In the senior category, a young Junagadh player took first place and set a record by covering the distance in 55.30 minutes.
In the women’s category, a girl from UP’s Mirzapur set a record with a time of 32.22 minutes. All of the winners received cash prizes and trophies.
Moreover, Lala Parmar, from the senior category, has made a new record of 5500 steps in 55.30 minutes which is lesser than the previous record of 55.31 minutes. Lala Parmar, a labourer, stood first in the competition and comes from a non-financially affluent background. He has broken this record working very hard in just 17 days.
Similarly, Taapsi Singh, a resident of Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, broke her previous record of 34 minutes by completing 2200 steps in 32.22 minutes. Her family is proud of their daughter’s accomplishments while studying at UP. Junagadh residents were equally ecstatic about breaking new records in this difficult competition.
This competition, organised by Yuva seva Sanskrutik Vibhag and the Junagadh district administration, drew a total of 360 participants. There were 142 registrations in Gujarat, 72 in Bihar, 23 in Maharashtra, 64 in Diu, and 41 in Haryana, for a total of 449 registrations.
Taapsi Singh finished in 32.15 minutes, Parmar Lala finished in 55.30 minutes, Sindhu Rituraj finished in 38.47 minutes, and Deepak Dabhi finished in 1.19 minutes.
