With Covid-19 cases continuing to decline, the Gujarat government has reduced the night curfew hours and also eased some other restrictions.
So far, curfew was imposed in 27 cities and towns from 10:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Following a review of the Covid-19 situation, the core committee reduced the curfew hours in Ahmedabad, Surat, and six other municipal corporations to 12:00 am to 5:00 am, while the curfew was lifted in the other cities and towns.
The revised curfew timings would come into force from February 11, the home department said in a notification.
The government has also allowed shops and other commercial establishments to function till 11:00 pm, an hour later than what was allowed so far. Hotels and restaurants have been allowed to operate with 75% capacity till 11:00 pm, while home delivery services are permitted round the clock.
The easing of restrictions comes just days after the government allowed the resumption of offline teaching for classes 1 to 9.
Separately, the state reported 2,275 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, declining by 11% from yesterday’s tally of 2,560, according to health department data. Cases fell sharply in Ahmedabad city from 965 to 700.
Vadodara city reported 292 cases, while no other city or district reported 100 cases. Vadodara rural reported 99 cases, followed by Mehsana with 96, Gandhinagar city 91, and Banaskantha 90.
The Covid-19 death toll increased by 21 to 10,761. Four deaths were reported in Ahmedabad city and Vadodara city, two in Surat rural and Rajkot rural, and one in Vadodara rural, Mehsana, Banaskantha, Rajkot city, Tapi, Sabarkantha, Bharuch, Jamnagar rural, and Jamnagar rural.
The active caseload declined to 21,437 with 8,172 more patients recovering. So far, 11.78 lakh or 97.34% of the patients have recovered. The cumulative vaccination coverage in the state crossed 10.05 crore with 1.66 lakh more vaccine doses being administered in the last 24 hours.
