New Covid-19 cases in Gujarat fell below 3,000 on Saturday, declining by nearly 1,000, even as the vaccination mark neared the 10 crore mark.
Gujarat reported 2,909 Covid-19 cases today, as against 3,897 the previous day, and 4,710 cases a day before that. Saturday’s tally was less than one-eighth of the record high of 24,485 cases reported on January 20.
Ahmedabad city reported 928 cases as against 1,263 yesterday, while Vadodara city reported 462 cases (777 yesterday). Vadodara rural (141 cases), Mehsana (140), Gandhinagar city (131), Banaskantha (128), and Rajkot city (108) reported over 100 cases. The case tally was 31 in Ahmedabad rural, the health department said.
The state reported 21 Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours to take its cumulative tally to 10,688, according to the state health department’s daily Covid-19 bulletin. Six deaths were reported in Ahmedabad city, four in Vadodara city, two in Surat city, and one in Gandhinagar city, Surat rural, Ahmedabad rural, Bhavnagar city, Valsad, Aravalli, Dahod, Sabarkantha, and Jamnagar rural.
The active caseload in the state declined to 38,644 from 44,618 a day earlier as 8,862 more patients recovered. The number of persons who have recovered from the Coronavirus is more than 11.53 lakh.
Separately, the Covid-19 vaccination coverage in the state crossed 9.98 crore as 2.71 lakh vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours.
Out of an estimated 36 lakh persons in the age group of 15-18, over 28.35 lakh have received one dose of the vaccine, while 9.33 lakh have received both doses. Nearly 16 lakh beneficiaries have also received the precaution dose so far.
