The number of new Covid-19 infections in Gujarat continued to fall, with 7,606 cases reported on Thursday, despite the fact that the number of fatalities remained at 34. The state reported 8,938 new infections and 34 deaths on Wednesday.
Ahmedabad had 3,118 cases and 10 deaths, while Rajkot had 1,127 cases and four deaths. With this, the total Covid toll in Ahmedabad city reached 3,542, bringing the total number of cases to 3,59,399. Surat city and district areas recorded six deaths, bringing the total to 2,044 and the number of cases to 2,02,361.
In light of the current Civid-19 situation in the state, the state’s core committee meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, decided on Thursday to extend the existing night curfew in 27 cities, including eight metros, until February 11.
In addition, public functions such as political, social, educational, cultural, and religious gatherings are now limited to a maximum of 150 people. In closed spaces, however, 50% of the space capacity is allowed, with a maximum of 150 attendees. In open spaces, 300 guests are permitted, while in close venues, 50 percent of the capacity of the area is permitted, with a maximum of 150 guests.
Hotels and restaurants are allowed to continue home delivery services for 24 hours. The night curfew which ends at 6 am on February 4 has been extended to 6 am on February 11, 2022.
At present, night curfew from 10 pm till 6 am is in force in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Bhavnagar and Gandhinagar. Another 19 cities — Anand, Nadiad, Surendranagar, Dhrangradhra, Morbi, Wankaner, Dhoraji, Gondal, Jetpur, Kalavad, Godhra, Vijalpore (Navsari), Navsari, Bilimora,Vyara, Vapi, Valsad, Bharuch and Ankleshwar were also included in the list of night curfew.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has declared four more residential areas as micro-containment zones: Maninagar, Thaltej, Chandkheda, and Nuhrunagar. The city council removed 12 zones from the list of containment zones, leaving a total of 38.
