Covid-19 cases in Gujarat fell by more than 3,200 to 21,225 on Friday, with a sharp decline in Ahmedabad and Surat cities, even as the state announced night curfew in more cities.
The state had reported 24,485 cases yesterday, which shows a decline of more than 13% today. Ahmedabad city recorded 8,627 cases as against 9,837 a day earlier. New Cases continued the declining trend in Surat city with 2,124 cases as compared with 2,981 yesterday. Vadodara city recorded over 2,400 cases against more than 2,800 yesterday, while Rajkot city recorded over 1,500 cases.
More than 600 persons tested positive in Gandhinagar city, while the number was in excess of 400 in Surat rural, Bharuch, Vadodara, and Bhavnagar city.
Sixteen Covid-19 patients passed away in the state in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative death toll to 10,215. Ahmedabad city reported eight deaths, and Surat city and Surat rural two each. One death was reported in Vadodara city, Vadodara rural, Kheda and Bhavnagar rural.
The number of active Covid-19 cases crossed 1.16 lakh even as more than 9,200 patients recovered. Over 8.95 lakh patients have recovered from Covid-19 for an overall recovery rate of 87.58%.
Over 2.10 lakh vaccines were administered in the state today to take the cumulative vaccination coverage to 9.60 crore.
Separately, the Gujarat government on Friday announced night curfew in 17 more towns and cities. The curfew from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. has also been extended by a week in Ahmedabad, Surat and eight other cities. Shops and other commercial establishments are allowed to operate till 10:00 p.m., the government has allowed food delivery 24×7.
