A dozen fire tenders are on the scene to put out the blaze, and nearly 100 firefighters from the district’s surrounding areas are helping to put out the blaze.

An electrical short circuit is said to have caused the fire at Soumya Dyeing and Printing mill in the early hours of Thursday morning. After getting caught in it, two gas cylinders exploded.

The charred bodies of three workers were pulled out of the building, while around 10 others have been rescued.

“Locals claimed that a short circuit followed by blasts of gas cylinders were responsible for the fire at the mill. Fire spread quickly because of the highly flammable chemicals, dyes and yarns. A large quantity of the ready-made garments and raw material was also gutted in the fire,” Bardoli’s chief fire officer P B Gadhvi said.

The fire could be seen four kilometres away from the mill, according to eyewitness reports. The fire was so intense that it forced the shutdown of nearby mills. There were concerns that the fire would also cause damage to the nearby units.
